The Self-Expression Issue: Now accepting queries!

Everyone’s has different ways of expressing themselves, especially when their mind likes to carve its own path. From poetry to sketching to drumming, from pop culture to politics, women have used art and self-expression as a successful coping skill for living with mental health challenges (and getting their hustle on). What’s your way of self-expression—and how does it affect your wellbeing—are you mindful of the experience? What are the roots of expression? We’re especially curious about the relationship between self-expression and our inner worlds. So, for the first issue of OSC, we’re looking at how self-expression relates to mental health. Self-expression has many faces, and we’re interested in all of them. Regardless of medium or form, it influences the way we reveal ourselves to the people around us. What stories can you tell about the way it affects your mental health or the health of your community? What aspects of self-expression haven’t been discussed? There are people who see self-expression as a malleable and evolving sense of self; and others that see it as the secret entrance to our hidden worlds. There are those who play with what self-expression means, and others who see it as a cage. For OSC No. 1 we’re interested in how self-expression—whether consciously or subconsciously—appears in our everyday lives and impacts our wellness journeys.
